At Ovoca Heating, we understand the importance of energy efficiency in rental properties. In line with government regulations, landlords are now required to ensure that their properties meet a minimum energy efficiency standard. One of the key requirements is that rental properties must have a minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C. In this section, we provide information about EPC C rated properties and the responsibilities of landlords.
The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) is part of the government’s objective to increase energy efficiency across homes in the UK and hopefully achieve net-zero carbon targets by 2050.
Aimed at landlords and property owners, MEES is set to improve energy efficiency in their properties, improve conditions in privately rented homes and, in turn, reduce fuel poverty.
What does this mean?
This means that all new domestic tenancies must be a minimum band C EPC rating by 31st December 2025 and all tenancies must be a minimum band C EPC rating by 31st December 2025. This applies to all residential and non-domestic properties
If landlords continue to let out properties that are not an EPC band C or above after this date, they could face fines of up to £30,000.
What can be done?
We can offer access to funding, installation, and support to help you bring your property/ properties up to a band C EPC rating or above. Our end-to-end solution combines both funding and direct installation so that, as a landlord, you can rest assured that your tenants will be comfortable with their home’s energy performance.
By following our process, your property will achieve a minimum rating of band C. If this isn’t possible, we will let you know before any installations are performed
